Hobby-Lobby Electric FireCat
And now finally I can continue building the FireCat.
Below is the Jeti Phasor 15/4 Brushless electric motor and the Jeti JES 30-3P Electronic Speed Control. Both are hi-performance options available from Hobby Lobby. The motor and ESC are plugged together. No soldering. If the motor run backwards, change 2 of the 3 wire connectors. But, it shouldn't matter which motor wire is connected to the ESC. Then, I soldered a DEAN'S ULTRAPLUG to the ESC(male end). The vise-grip pliers are used as a vice to hold the plug while the wires are soldered to it. The female part of the DEAN'S ULTRAPLUG is soldered to the battery. This is important because with the female end of the plug soldered to the battery wires, the battery won't unintentional short out if a metal object is touching the battery plug! The ESC is capable of using 6-10 cells.
Here's the DEAN'S ULTRAPLUG soldered to the battery. The battery pack is a 7 cell 1250 mah Ni-cd. I also have a spare battery pack I made ready for backup.....
Here's the motor, ESC, battery pack with safety swich all together and ready for mounting in the FireCat.
Here the motor is mounted to the firewall with screws.
Below is the underside of the plane with the motor, esc and wiring in place. The esc is not securely mounted yet, nor the wiring or safety switch. As u can see, there is an open copy of Model Airplane News with an article by Vic Bunze. This article in the April 2002 issue inspired me to start my own Firecat project. I hope he doesn't mind my using it as a backdrop for the FireCat.
