--=BIRTH OF A SAND/DESERT CAR, Mounting The RearEnd and SwingArms, Hubs

Mounting the 3rd Member
Part of the 3rd member is mounted at the back by welding a cross tub and some tabs... More tabs later. Alignment is critical.... I decided to make the outer hub mounts U shaped attachments...Tabs and metal cut and welded to form a U to attach the outer hub. Below are pictures. Special Note: I bought 9/16, 5/8, 3/4 in. drill bits. The larger size bits are needed. The hole in the upper rearend hub mount is larger than the lower twin mount holes AND they are METRIC in size. Which means METRIC BOLTS(ACK). Plus the heim joints I am using for the pivots on the frame are the larger 5/8 X 3/4 ChroMoly ones so the tabs need a hole larger than the normal 1/2 drill bit size.

Once the front of the rearend mount is established we will make the swing arms and tabs.

I decided to make the hub mounts. With available tabs and metal(3/8") I cut and welded the U forms.

Rear swing arms are made next. We use 5/8x3/4 chromoly heim joints with 3/4x1.5 in bungs plus 1.5x.095 tubing. The vertical/horizontal shift of the hub through the up movement as measured by the angle gauge is almost negligable ( +- 1 deg. from vertical). A negative camber (top of the tire tilted in) will be needed of about 1 or 2 deg's..... Down movement will be measured once we put the frame on stands. Front swing arms are next for the rear swing arms, and toe in change will have to be a consideration through the suspension movement.....

I am waiting on a new floor drill press to arrive and I have ran out of 1.5 in. tubing. Again a few weeks on hold, ACK....
