--=BIRTH OF A SAND/DESERT CAR, Mounting The Rearend and Swing Arms, Hubs' Part 2
Mounting the 3rd Member/Swing Arms, Part 2
Tabs were drilled out to 5/8(They have 1/2 holes and come in different lengths and configuration)..... I believe I went with 5/8 Heim Joints because they were cheaper than the 1/2x3/4.. Around $45.00
each, 4 for each side, plus tubing bungs and jam nuts. (Chrome Moly and Teflon Lined Heims) A rod was run through the top tabs for better alignment to the frame.
I decided on a bracket for the front of the rearend, cut and fabricated it and tacked it in place. Holes will be drilled to secure the rearend to the frame.
Holes and spacers will be needed to hardmount the rearend.
For some reason I did the right swing arms before hard mounting the 3 rd member. But everything is pretty close.
More pictures follow
I'm prob looking at 18 inches(maybe slightly less) of total wheel travel on the rearend. I don't want to overextend the CV joints, but here u see almost 10 inches up from horizontal
for travel. Down will be the same for a total of almost 20 inch movement up and down....
Once the 3rd member is hard mounted,an exact copy of the right side is needed for the left side
Then wheels and tires, plus eventually shocks.
Much gusseting, reinforcement, triangulation, plating is needed on everything to strengthen
ALL tubing and joints, including suspension
